To Alaska aboard Loon
This is the first post for a big trip up to Alaska this summer. It's exciting.
I want to get some information out there for folks that may want to participate in the trip.
Basic timetable for the trip is:

| 5/18 - 6/22 | trip north to Ketchikan |
| 6/22 - 8/1 | meandering around SE Alaska (mostly in the Ketchikan/Meyers Chuck area) |
| 8/1 - 9/8 | trip south to Seattle |
The trips north & south can be broken into roughly 3 parts;
- Seattle --> Port Hardy/Bella Bella (about 14 days)
- Port Hardy/Bella Bella --> Print Rupert (about 10 days)
- Prince Rupert --> Ketchikan (about 4 days)
There are a few extra days thrown into the table above for days hanging out at the larger ports like Port Hardy, Prince Rupert, etc. This makes things flexible in case I need to work around someone's tight schedule.
Unfortunately, because of all the stuff that I need to take with me, there is really no room for more than two people on the boat during the trips north and south (unless they are less than 3 feet tall!).
The map to the left shows a good outline of the areas that I (we) will be passing through.
Here is some more helpful information:
- Loon is an International Folkboat.
- Does Loon have a heater? Yes!
- How far is the trip from Seattle to Ketchikan? About 600 miles.
- How to get up the coast of British Columbia on the ferry.
- How to take the U.S. ferry from Bellingham to Ketchikan.
- Alaska Airlines has flights up to Ketchikan.
- There are many companies that provide float plane service to almost anywhere on the BC coast.
